Crazy superstitions!

http://familiahinckley.blogspot.com Michelle, a friend of mine who was expecting her 3 child, passed her due date and in her blog mentioned that the full moon passed and the baby wasn´t born. She mentioned that because while they were missionaries in Honduras and she was pregnant she heard all sort of stories. Anyways, her baby is born and she is very cute, you can visit her blog and check it yourself.

Here are some of the crazy stories:
full moon: originally women believed that they would deliver their bebies with the nineth full moon during their pregnancy. I guess it was a way to count their 9 months so they said that with the full moon they would complete they pregnancy time and that the baby was ready to be born.

The eye: this is the craziest thing I´ve heard. They say there are certain people that are born with strong eyes (vision) and that if they see your baby then the baby will be very sick. If a stong eye person sees your baby they have to hold the baby so the baby doesn´t get sick. The baby has to wear something red as a protection from the strong eye person. There is still A LOT of people that belive this and as soon as the baby is born they put a red string, or bracelet, or red socks to the baby.

Tabardio de dientes: I don´t even have a clue on how to translate the first word. People say that when babies are teething they get this sickness with diarreah, vomiting and fevers. Babies when are teething put whatever they see in their mouth so I tell poeple that it is just that the baby put something that was not clean in their mouth and got sick.

Empacho: This a sickness related to stomach problems. When babies don´t want to eat or if they vomit the formula they say it is empacho. There are several old ladies that "cure" empacho. They give a special Massage that they can dissolve or moved some ball that they find under the baby´s skin, and that is not all, afterwards they have to give to the baby a special drink.

Well, this are just a fue of them, I could go on and on. If anyone is interested on hearing more about Honduran superstitions let me know and I can post some more.
